To Become Saheb e Nisab for ZAKAT Clear Your Doubts
If you ask any Muslims, when did you become Saheb e Nisab do you know?
Most of them will tell you I don’t have 7.5 Tola of Gold mentioned in Hadith so I don’t need to think about paying zakat. This is widely known and spoken in our society and at somehow it is wrong.

Why it’s wrong?
I am not telling its totally wrong as I wrote above at somehow it is wrong because as you are telling 7.5 Tola of Gold is mentioned in the hadith yes I agree but in the same hadith 52.5 Tola of Silver also mentioned so why you are not considering this 52.5 Tola of Silver as a benchmark to find out if you are Saheb e Nisab or not. Simple answer is either you don’t know or never think in this way before that 52.5 Tola of Silver can be the benchmark as well.

Now let me make it clear that How much is the Nisab for ZAKAT?
Nisab can be determined in terms of Gold/ Silver/Money/Maal e Tijarat:

1. If you have only GOLD: The Nisab is 85 grams (7.5 Tola) of Gold. So, if your total wealth (Which qualifies for Zakat) is less than 85 grams of Gold, then you do NOT need to pay zakat but if it is higher than the Nisab (85 Grams of Gold) then you MUST pay zakat on the entire Gold if the Nisab held for a lunar year.

2. If you have only SILVER: The Nisab is 612.35 grams (52.5 Tola) of Silver. So, if your total wealth (Which qualifies for Zakat) is less than the price of 612.35 Gram of Silver, then you do NOT need to pay zakat but if it is higher than the Nisab (612.35 Gram of Silver) then you MUST pay zakat on the entire Silver if the Nisab held for a lunar year.

Above benchmark very rarely or almost impossible to have with anyone in this time.
3. If you have MONEY/GOLD/SILVER/Maal e Tijarat: The Nisab is 612.35 gram (52.5 Tola) of Silver. So, if your total wealth (Which qualifies for Zakat) is less than the price of 612.35 Gram of Silver, then you do NOT need to pay zakat but if it is higher than the Nisab (612.35 Gram of Silver) then you MUST pay zakat on the entire amount if the Nisab held for a Lunar Year.

Wealth can fluctuate during the year, going above or below Nisab. Zakat is only due if wealth is in equal or excess of Nisab at the end of a person’s Zakat Lunar Year.
This time we can’t live without cash so if anyone having cash his benchmark will be the lower value from the above hadith which is 52.5 Tola of Silver or equivalent cash (i.e., approximately 36792.52 Rs, this value for 1st of Ramadan-1442).

Now come to the Question if someone ask you when you became Saheb e Nisab.
The answer must not be I don’t have 7.5 Tola of gold so I don’t need to think about paying zakat.
You should calculate your Cash, Gold, Silver & Maal e Tijarat if total sum of amount reaches the rate of 52.5 Tola of Silver on that date/time you become Saheb e Nisab.
Write Down the Date in Your Diary This Is the Date You Become Saheb E Nisab.

Note: Any doubt, do consult Ulema e Kiram for further guidance.
